The Different Rhinoplasty Procedures
The Different Rhinoplasty Procedures
Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery operation designed to
change the size or shape of the nose or to restore the proper functioning of
the nasal structures. Many people turn to nose surgery if they are not
satisfied with the appearance of their nose and desire a more aesthetic
appearance.
If you are thinking about a nose job, it can be reassuring
to know that you are not alone. More than 220,000 people underwent nose
restructuring surgery in 2013.
The most common rhinoplasties are called open and closed
rhinoplasties. It may also be necessary for a plastic surgeon to perform a
revision rhinoplasty, also called secondary rhinoplasty. For minor changes of
the nose, there is also a non-surgical procedure called Rhinoplasty of filling.
Here are the four aesthetic and medical procedures for
shaping the nose:
Open nose correction
The open rhinoplasty procedure is used for a complete
remodeling of the nose. During this operation, the doctor will make an incision
in the strip of skin that separates the nostrils. When the skin and soft
tissues are lifted, the surgeon can see and work with the underlying anatomy of
the nose.
The benefits of open rhinoplasty provide the surgeon with
direct visualization of cartilage and other nasal anatomies, as well as the
ability to manipulate the nose with greater precision and precision.
Closed nose correction
With closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made in the nose.
Then, as with open rhinoplasty, the skin is separated from bone and cartilage,
giving the surgeon access to the underlying structure. The bone and cartilage
can then be reshaped, removed or enlarged to achieve the desired shape or
structural correction.
In addition to the location of the incision and the resulting
small scar, closed rhinoplasty has the advantage of reduced surgery time,
reduced swelling, and shorter postoperative healing time.
(Your surgeon will discuss these procedures with you and
tell you which one you think is appropriate for your surgical work.)
Revision nose correction
Nasal revision is also called secondary rhinoplasty because
it is a second surgery performed to correct persistent and persistent nose
problems after previous surgery.
The problem could be the look. Maybe the patient does not
like the result of the first operation. A revision rhinoplasty may also be
necessary because of structural difficulties or accidental trauma occurring
after a nasalogging operation.
Sometimes this is a small problem that can be easily
remedied during a visit to the office. In other cases, the problem can be
complex, making the correction more difficult than the initial operation.
Secondary rhinoplasty can be performed open or closed.
Filling nose correction
If you have a nose, your doctor will use injectables to
change the shape of your nose. With this nonsurgical approach, the doctor can
compensate sharp angles and bumps, change the shape of the tip of the nose and
restore some symmetry. Since filling nose correction is an augmentation
procedure, that is, it adds material, it can not reduce the size of a person's
nose.
Among the commonly used fillers for this nonsurgical
rhinoplasty are hyaluronic acid (Restalyne, Juvéderm) or calcium hydroxyapatite
(Radiesse).
Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic procedure in which medical
problems, such as a distracted septum, are not resolved.
Injections are quite effective, but do not provide the
lasting results you can get with a nose job.
